Thoresby Colliery Band has announced the arrival of new players ahead of what promises to be a busy second half of the 2014 contest season.
New players
Jay Abbott, who has relocated to Nottingham after completing his studies at Salford University, comes in on soprano cornet, following spells playing with Hammonds Saltaire and Milnrow.
Jay played with Thoresby at this year’s Grand Shield and now returns to join Lewis Shaw, who has returned to the area after a period in the Army, and who will take his seat on the solo cornet bench.
Meanwhile, Matt Cotterhill comes in on BBb Bass from Stannington Band to add to the long-standing tuba section.
The band is also planning for the future, following the arrival of baby Florence, daughter of Eb Bass player Judith Pendlebury!
Management changes
Band management changes see Kieren Williams take up the position of Band Manager with immediate effect, Jackie Greensted become Treasurer and Charlie MacPhail take the role of Secretary.
Band Chairman George Kennedy told 4BR: "We’re delighted to welcome such experienced and talented players to the band. All three have settled in nicely and we look forward to a successful future together.
Supported by the new management of the band, we’re confident that we can build on the positive foundations laid down by Musical Director Brian Grant, and the signing of players of this calibre underlines this ambition.”
