Collins inspired by iron will

Composer Dave Collins has been inspired by the history of Ironbridge for his latest composition.

Ironbridge

Composer Dave Collins has just finished his latest commission to write a work for this year’s Ironbridge Gorge Brass Band Festival in Shropshire.

A New Creation

‘A New Creation’ draws inspiration from the history, beauty and people of the famous Coalbrookdale and Ironbridge Gorge area and is based upon the traditional Quaker Hymn ‘How Can I keep From Singing?’

Sections

Dave told 4BR that the work has been written in five distinct sections to correspond to the method of producing iron — from the sound of bellows and fires, to hot furnaces, molten metal, shaping and moulding and the final foundation to the building of the iconic bridge itself.

The composition will be premiered at the Gala Concert at this year’s Ironbridge Brass Band Festival, due to take place on 19th- 20th July which attracts over 5,000 visitors.

The performance will be given by the joint forces of Jaguar Land Rover and Jackfield Reisen Bands.

Bands

Festival Chairman, Neil Fury, told 4BR: "Whilst the festival itself will be completely free of charge for visitors, the Saturday evening Gala Concert will be ticket only, with all proceeds going to Severn Hospice."
