Wardle raise the flag on high

Members of the Wardle Academy Youth, Junior and Intermediate Bands have been busy of late.

Armed Forces week

Three young players from Wardle Academy Youth Band recently played ‘Reveille’ at flag raising ceremonies at Milnrow and Littleborough as part of the Armed Forces week.

Representatives

Skye Wilson, Rachael Clegg and Hannah Timperley (above) gave flawless performances in front of the Deputy Mayor, Mayor and representatives from numerous local organisations.

Whit Friday success

Meanwhile, the Wardle Junior and Intermediate Bands recently participated in the traditional Whit Walks in Mossley.

The players joined with local residents to march in the Procession of Witness from ‘top’ Mossley and back through the streets to the marketplace for an inter-denominational service of witness.

March success

Later in the day, Wardle Academy Youth competed in Tameside and Saddleworth, playing seven contests and collecting a number of prizes along the way with their march selections of ‘Slaidburn’ and ‘Glemdene’.

They visited three Tameside venues, and at Denton Cricket Club achieved a ‘Treble’ of Highest Placed Junior, Deportment and Junior Cornet prizes, whist at Broadoak and Upper Mossley Wardle they were again the Highest Placed Junior Band.

In Saddleworth, there were further prizes at Freizeland, Lees & Springhead and Scouthead & Austerlands whilst they finished the evening at Denshaw where they were the highest placed youth band.
