Report & Results: 2014 Holme Valley Slow Melody & Ensemble

There was plenty of great playing on show at the Holme Valley Slow Melody & Ensemble contest.

Contest

There was a great day of fine performances at the recent Holme Valley Slow Melody & Ensemble competition, held at their impressive band room at Hade Edge.

Enjoyed

David Horsfield, standing in for Sandy Smith at short notice, thoroughly enjoyed his day, recalling how when he last visited Hade Edge to adjudicate, he had to battle through the snow to the old wooden hut back in the days of late great Jack Fisher.

Resurgence

Black Dyke’s solo horn star Jonny Bates was on hand throughout the day as Master of Ceremonies, with contest organiser Graham Bates telling 4BR that the event continues to grow.

"The recent resurgence of such contests as this can only be good for the development of players young and old, and it was pleasing to see several new faces at this year’s event."
