4BR has been informed that there has been a good response from bands attracted by the generous prize fund on offer at the Dr Martin Trust Contest, which will take place at Middlesbrough Town Hall on Sunday the 14th September.
£4,000 first prize
Now in its fifth year, the event boasts a prize pot of £8,000, with the winners taking away the Wainstones Cup plus a first prize of £4,000 — more than is on offer at the British Open which takes place just a week before in Birmingham.
Limited
The growing popularity of the event, won last year by the Co-operative Funeralcare Band from Scotland under the baton of Allan Ramsay, is such that entries are now limited.
Such is the interest that bands are asked to contact the contest organizers by the 25th June to register their entries.
Format
The contest format sees the nationally graded Championship Section bands perform an own choice march, feature a main soloist and championship standard own choice test piece.
Appearance fee
In addition to the £4,000 first prize, podium finishers pick up £2,000 and £1,000, with £500 for the band coming fourth. There are additional prizes of £250 for the march and solo winners.
An entry fee of £150 is payable, although each band will receive a £300 appearance fee.
