One of the longest running and most successful brass band concert events will come to an end in June, with the final performance organised by the Ipswich Charity Concert Committee at the city’s Corn Exchange venue.
25 years
After 25 years and with over £80,000 raised for charitable causes from 52 brass band concerts, Grimethorpe Colliery Band will give the final performance on Saturday June 7th.
Regret
Speaking about the decision to end the series which started way back in 1990, committee secretary Tim Mutum told 4BR: "It’s with considerable regret that we have decided, for a number of reasons, that this will be our final concert.
It’s fitting however that we should end with the band that helped start it all off 25 years ago, with Grimethorpe Colliery Band conducted by musical director, Dr Robert Childs."
In the last 25 years we have welcomed all of the top brass bands to Ipswich and it has been a joy and a privilege to do soTim Mutum
Enjoyed
Tim added: "In the last 25 years we have welcomed all of the top brass bands to Ipswich and it has been a joy and a privilege to do so.
Most of them had never been to Suffolk before, and all were keen to return once they had savoured the atmosphere of our concerts and enjoyed the surroundings and acoustic of the Grand Hall of the Corn Exchange."
