A new 1-minute prelude by composer Dave Collins, entitled, ‘Into the Depths’ has won a Vox Novus compositional prize in the United States.
60 seconds
The brief called for a short 60 second prelude for brass ensemble and Dave told 4BR that he based the composition upon the name of the commissioning ensemble — the acclaimed Nautilus Brass Ensemble.
Depths
"’Into the Depths’ utilises unusual techniques including submerging instruments in water which creates a unique and alien sound-world similar to the depths of the Ocean," Dave said.
"The main motif is heroic and poised, to suggest bravery as we plunge, ‘Into the Depths."
