The latest World of Brass – 4barsrest.com Rankings see some spectacular changes following the European Championships, with the winning band Burgermusik Luzern leaping a remarkable 56 places into the top ten after its historic first win for Switzerland in Perth last weekend.
Second-placed Eikanger-Bjørsvik is also establishing itself as one of the most consistent bands in the world and this is reflected in it rising to fifth, its highest ever position.
The proximity of the European Championships and the Spring Festival also means that Grand Shield winner Flowers, which is enjoying a hugely successful 2014 so far, didn’t actually move up in the table, although the band’s points total has moved significantly closer to the top ten.
The other ranking contests taking place since the last update are:
Flemish Open — won by Brass Band Buizingen;
Brass in the Valley — won by Murley Silver;
SCABA Spring Contest — won by Tilbury;
Buxton Brass Band Festival — won by Whitworth Vale and Healey;
European Challenge Section — won by Brass Band Wipptal;
Australian National Championships — won by Brisbane Excelsior;
North American Championships — won by Stavanger;
Senior Cup — won by Wingates;
Senior Trophy — won by Friary Guildford.
