Set works by the highly respected German composer Rolf Rudin and the Columbian born Carlos Cardenas, will test the bands at the 2015 European Championships in Freiburg.
Rodin
Rudin, who has composed for brass before (including a Euphonium Concerto for Steven Mead), will write the Championship set work, with the Columbian Cardenas, who is studying in Freiburg, composing the Challenge Section test piece.
In a presentation made by Kurt Bohlhalter of Switzerland, it was also revealed that the 38th Championships will also include the 6th European Composer’s Competition, with a prize fund of €7,000 Euros, and a Gala Concert featuring the world famous German Brass with leading international soloists.
Youth
Meanwhile, the European Youth Brass Band, which will be directed by Uwe Koller, will be based in a brand new state of the art music camp, whilst the opening ceremony and draw will take place in one of the city’s famous medieval merchant houses.

Youth Championship review
EBBA also announced that it will undertake a comprehensive feasibility review of the inaugural European Youth Championship event, which attracted eight bands from five countries in its Premier and Development Section, to see if it can be held annually in future, or on a rotation basis such as the Composers, Conductors and Soloist competitions.
