Wales expresses strong interest in 2019 Europeans

The European Championships could return to Wales for the first time in 2019.

Milennium Centre

Wales has announced its ‘strong expression of interest’ in hosting the 2019 European Brass Band Championships in Cardiff.

Wonderful return

Gwyn L Williams, Director of Ty Cerdd, which oversees the support, development and promotion of all forms of music making in Wales, was in Perth to speak to EBBA Executive members, and in an interview with 4BR (link below), felt that it would be wonderful if the festival could return to the Principality for the first time since 1992.

Millennium Centre

4BR understands that provisional Welsh Government support has already been forthcoming through its major events subsidiary body, and that it would be hoped to stage the main championship events at the iconic Millennium Centre in Cardiff Bay, with additional events based at St David’s Hall (host venue for the 1986 and 1992 championships) and the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.

Contracts

EBBA confirmed that contracts for Freiburg (2015), Lille (2016), Ostend (2017) and Utrecht (2018) have now been signed, with strong expressions of interest from Wales and Lithuania to be considered for the 2019 and 2020 events.
