The Usk Band recently held a fundraising auction and free concert in their home town which raised almost £1,500 to support their growing list of musical activities.
Young recruits
Led by Usk Mayor Alec Leathwood as a wonderful auctioneer at the local Conservative Club, the evening was also an opportunity to encourage new players (some very young in fact!) to consider joining the band.
There was wonderful support from the town’s traders, from the local hotels to the South Wales Police Driver Training Unit which boosted donations from supporters and individuals.
Merthyr rising
The band is now looking forward to competing in the South East Wales Brass Band Association (SEWBBA) Festival in Merthyr Tydfil in May, as well as performing in a number of local concerts.
