The Foden's Band recently provided assistance to two local youth bands in preparation for their recent performances at the National Youth Championship in Salford.
Help
Euphonium star and conductor Mark Bousie (above) visited Macclesfield Youth Band to put them through their paces, whilst principal cornet Mark Wilkinson was enlisted to help prepare Lions Youth Brass, and in particular their principal cornet Wilson Taylor for his solo feature during their programme.
Great boost
Mark Bousie also works regularly alongside Michael Fowles as a conductor with the Foden's Youth Band, and Macclesfield MD Louise Renshaw told 4BR that is was a great boost to her band to have him along:
"Having someone of Mark's experience put our bands through their paces just before the contest worked really well.
Not only was he able to polish the performance but he boosted the player’s individual confidence and pushed them musically. I enjoyed being able to stand back and listen and watch too."
Gold
Louise added: "One week later we had our best ever result at the Nationals with a gold award and 4th place for the youth band and a bronze for the Juniors band. Thanks Mark and Foden's — come back soon!"

Congratulations
Both Macclesfield and Lions were awarded Gold for their performances, with Lions also placed second in the Blue Riband Championship Section category.
Foden’s spokesperson Ian Raisbeck told 4BR: "Everyone at Foden's would like to pass on our congratulations to both organisations, as well as to the countless others who are working hard to encourage the next generation of brass and percussion players."
Later this year, a third organisation, Stockport Schools Band, will benefit from the same scheme when baritone star Natsumi McDonald will visit their rehearsal.
