No Whit at the Dog & Partridge this year

There will be no Whit Friday contest at Greenacres this year.

Whit Friday

4BR has been informed that there will be no Greenacres Whit Friday contest this year.

Loss of sponsorship

Various factors have contributed to the decision, which sees the end of an enjoyable event that has taken place over the last 15 year at the Dog & Partridge on Constantine Street.

Greenacres Whit Friday Contest Secretary Andy Clayton told 4BR: "Loss of sponsorship, a reduction in support for fundraising events and for the organisation and running of the event, and a growing uncertainty over the future of the Dog & Partridge as a pub have all contributed to the decision."

Thanks

He added: "I would like to take this opportunity to thank numerous people that have supported us over the last 15 years.

These include Dennis Wilby and Brian Rostron for their services as adjudicators, all our sponsors for their invaluable support over the years, and Dave Giblin & Debbie Fernandez from the Dog & Partridge for hosting and organising the event and the many fundraising nights.

Thanks also go to the bands that have turned up to play and everyone that has helped with the running and stewarding of the contest over the years."

It has on the whole been a successful and enjoyable event and we are really sad to see it go but unfortunately it has to beAndy Clayton
