Warm Wilkinson welcome for Ward in Western Reserve

There will be be a lovely alliterative welcome for a great cornet soloist in Ohio this weekend.

The Brass Band of Western Reserve and their conductor Dr Keith Wilkinson will be welcoming a very special guest this weekend to perform with them at the Medina Performing Arts Center, in Ohio, on Saturday, April 5th.

Distinguished

Gordon Ward grew up in Great Britain and graduated from the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. He moved to the United States in 1981 and has been the distinguished principal cornet player of the New York Staff Band for more than 20 years.

Great honour

Keith told 4BR: "Gordon has travelled extensively as a guest clinician and conductor and, as a cornet soloist, has performed at prestigious venues such as London's Royal Albert Hall, the Sydney Opera House and Oslo Concert Hall.

He has also performed the world premieres of several solos which have been written especially for him so it is a great honour and pleasure to welcome Gordon to the band as our guest."

Soloist

While in Ohio, Gordon will also be the soloist with Chapel Brass at a concert in Worthington on Friday, April 4th and will also present a solo with Chapel at Worthington Woods SA Band in the Worship Service on Sunday, April 6th. Both of these bands are also directed by Keith.
