Following their First Section qualification success at the Yorkshire Area Championship in Bradford earlier this month, the Hatfield Band has just boosted their worldwide profile by providing the musical backdrop to one of the horse racing world’s foremost events.
Worldwide punters
The band performed before and after the prestigious William Hill Lincoln Handicap at Doncaster racecourse, where over 8,000 punters and a worldwide audience that was measured in millions thanks to live coverage on Channel 4, enjoyed the music the band played.
The meeting marks the start of the UK flat racing season and the feature race, worth over £60,000 to the winner, sprung a surprise, with Ocean Tempest at 20/1, claiming victory.
Delighted
Hatfield Secretary Margaret Curran told 4BR that the band was delighted to be part of such a high profile international sporting event.
"It was a fantastic opportunity to play at such a prestigious sporting event. The generosity of the race goers also helped with our fund-raising for our own trip to Cheltenham in September!"

Adding to the atmosphere
Mark Spincer, managing director of Doncaster Racecourse added: "We were delighted that the Hatfield Band played at the meeting and their repertoire of traditional Yorkshire themes really added to the atmosphere on the day.
I wish the band every success with their fundraising efforts and with their own appearance at that other famous race course in September."
