The European Brass Band Association (EBBA) and Scottish Brass Band Association have announced that 33 soloists from twelve nations will compete in the 6th European Soloist Competition in Perth between the 27th April and 1st May.

Panel

The event will be judged by a panel comprising Alan Morrison (England), Simone Rebello (England), Frode Amundsen (Norway) and Kasper Thaarup (Denmark), with the preliminary rounds commencing on Sunday 27th April at Perth’s North Inch Campus.

The second round and semi final will take place over the following two days at Perth’s St Leonards in the Fields Church, before the Gala Concert final on 1st May in Perth Concert Hall, featuring the three finalists.

Major work

Each will perform a major work accompanied by the Kirkintilloch Band, with an additional concert performance by the European Youth Band prior to the awards ceremony.

Prestigious

EBBA President, Ulf Rosenberg told 4BR: "This prestigious event attracts some of the finest soloists from across Europe and many previous participants have gone on to enjoy international musical careers.

It is encouraging to welcome so many brass and percussion instrumentalists to the stage, representing a wide variety of European countries, which I am sure will offer an exciting opportunity for audiences to enjoy their musical talent."

Key event

He added: "As a key event of the European Brass Band Championship, the European Soloist Competition looks set to be another significant success."
