Later this month, to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the 1984-5 Miners’ Strike, American film maker Bill Morrison’s will premier his work, ‘The Miners’ Hymns’.
Lyrical portrait
The work paints an unashamedly lyrical portrait of Britain’s industrial past using rarely seen archive film footage spanning 100 years, depicting the mining communities, the increasing mechanisation of the pits and the extraordinary annual Durham Miners’ Gala.
Live sound track
Icelandic composer Jóhann Jóhannsson’s live soundtrack draws on the brass band musical heritage of the northeast of England, and will be joined by members of the Durham-based NASUWT Riverside Band in this special performance.
