Wardle cop a great experience

A rendition of the famous 'Policeman's Song' was made all the more authentic for the young players of Wardle Academy recently.

Wardle High School

The talented young players of Wardle Academy recently took part in the 30th Action Medical Youth Brass Band Festival of Great Britain in Blackpool, where their Junior Band won the Tony Russell Memorial Cup for their wonderful performance of ‘The Policeman’s Song’.

Uniforms

The rendition was made all the more authentic however by the band being loaned real police uniforms from Greater Manchester Police for the occasion — the sight of them not being lost on quite a few shifty looking members of the audience!!!!

The latest success comes in what is turning out to be a busy year for the band, which has performed a concert for Cancer Research raising over £1,000, taken part in a great teambuilding activity weekend and performed in the Music for Youth Festival.

Congratulations to MD Gwen Smith and our thanks also go to the lovely members of the Great Manchester Police Force!Janet Emsley

Socks off

Spokesperson Janet Emsley told 4BR: "The children represented Wardle Academy brilliantly. They thoroughly enjoyed the day and performance, and played their socks off!

Congratulations to MD Gwen Smith and our thanks also go to the lovely members of the Great Manchester Police Force!"
