The Cornwall Brass Band Association recently ran a successful workshop for junior players at the excellent Lanner Band rehearsal facilities, which proved ideal with its large rehearsal room and smaller rooms for the event.
Raw material
32 learners aged between 6 and 72 and with playing experience from four weeks to four years, provided the raw material for workshop leader Darren Hawken and his team of Hannah Hawken, Lee Rouse, Mark Arnold, Paul Uzzell and Simon Martindale to work with.
All those taking part thoroughly enjoyed the day, with one young girl telling the tutors, “The music was hard — there were even upside down notes!”
Upside down
Despite the occasional upside down note, the feedback received has been hugely positive and plans are already being considered for another workshop event.
