Grimethorpe Colliery Band has announced the appointment of Ray Farr as their new Associate Conductor.

Asset

Band Manager Nigel Dixon told 4BR: "We have been working with Ray over the past few months and he has proved to be a real asset complimenting the work done by Principal Conductor and Director of Music, Dr Bob Childs."

Ray is no stranger to Grimethorpe, serving as a successful Musical Director during the 1970’s and 1980’s when he led them to numerous contest successes — including four Brass in Concert titles.

Coup

Bob Childs described Ray's appointment as a real coup, telling 4BR:

"It’s great to have Ray join the Grimethorpe creative team. He's got a very keen pair of ears and is an all round great musician. I'm really looking forward to working with him again.

It's been a long time since I played solo euphonium in his Grimethorpe Colliery Band more than 30 years ago!"

Conducting at recent concerts has been a joy. It will also be good to support Bob Childs who I have known and admired for many yearsRay Farr

Opportunity

Commenting on his new appointment Ray added: "I’m delighted to have this opportunity to be more closely associated with this terrific band once again. They are a top-class group of players and work at a highly professional level.

Conducting at recent concerts has been a joy. It will also be good to support Bob Childs who I have known and admired for many years.”

Ray will commence his new role with immediate effect helping to prepare the band in rehearsals, concerts and a forthcoming recording project.
