All the hours of practice proved more than worthwhile for the Great Western Youth Band at the recent Wessex BBA Youth/Training Band Contest.
Thirty seven on stage
The 37 strong ensemble which took to the stage without any adult assistance had an average of just 14. The band performed exceptionally well, winning several trophies on the day, including second place in the Training Band Section,, Best Hymn Tune and Best Deportment.
Gold
Further success came with a Gold Award and its flugel horn soloist, Millie Marriot-Webb, whose performance of the 'Concerto De Aranjuez' was one of the highlights of the band's programme.
Under the direction of Musical Director, John Winterflood, Great Western Youth opened their with the 'James Bond Theme' which was followed by the cornet section delivering a technically proficient performance of 'Buglers Holiday'.
At just an average age of 14, the 37 members of Great Western Youth did themselves proud.
