Smithills marathon edges closer to USA

The hard working players of Smithills School Senior Band have been putting in the musical miles once again to get to the USA...

Smithills marathon

The 52 strong Smithills School Senior Band under MD Chris Wormald have just completed their latest 10 hour, non-stop sponsored rehearsal as part of their ongoing fundraising for their latest American Tour.

Fantastic atmosphere

With 100% attendance and a fantastic atmosphere from start to finish, the players rehearsed a range of repertoire including the marches, ‘Army of the Nile’, ‘Punchinello’ and ‘The Voice of the Guns’, as well as new arrangements by their MD for a forthcoming concert in aid of Bolton Hospice at the end of March and that fifth American trip.

Annual highlight

MD, Chris Wormald told 4BR: "The marathon Sundays have become an annual highlight over the past two decades and raise nearly £4,000 each year for band funds. In addition, huge musical and stamina improvements are made and there is fantastic bonding and humour.

The hours fly by and are hugely rewarding for everyone involved."

The 32 members of Smithills School Junior Brass Band will complete their own mini-marathon Sunday later in the term.
