Radio 2 Young Brass semi final details released

The eight Young Brass semi finalists will gain top class backing in their bid for glory.

Radio 2 has announced further details of its Young Brass Award 2014 as the nationwide search for the next brass star reaches the semi-final stage.

Eight talented performers

This takes place on January 25th as the eight talented performers record up to 10 minutes of music of their own choice with the Foden’s Band and conductor Michael Fowles.

The judges are Paul Cosh and Ewan Easton, with Frank Renton announcing the names of the four players selected to go through to the Final in an extended edition of Radio 2’s ‘Listen to the Band’ on Thursday February 6th starting at the earlier time of 11.00pm.

Final

The Final, to be broadcast live on March 28th, will be judged by Ian Bousfield, Catherine Moore and Professor Edward Gregson.

It will be presented by Ken Bruce with Frank Renton conducting the Grimethorpe Colliery Band.

Prize

The award winner will take home the special trophy, be offered a further broadcast opportunity with a performance at the European Festival of Brass Gala Concert in Perth on Saturday May 3rd and will be the featured artist in a future edition of ‘Listen to the Band’.
