Sandhurst to host Area preview

The Sandhurst Silver Band is to host an Area preview of all five test pieces ahead of Stevenage.

One of the first of many 2014 Area Championship previews will be taking place in Camberley in Surrey in March, as Sandhurst Silver Band hosts pre-contest run-throughs of the set works to be heard in each of the five qualifying sections.

Contest conditions

The pieces will be played under ‘contest’ conditions, with Rob Wiffin, the highly respected Director of Music for the Royal Air Force, acting as constructive critic and adjudicator to give feedback on each performance.

All five sections

The afternoon event starts at 3.00pm at St Paul’s Church in Camberley on Sunday March 9th and will feature Championship Section Alder Valley directed by Roger Burke playing ‘St Magnus’ by Kenneth Downie as well First Section, Sandhurst Silver conducted by Ian McElligott with ‘Cry of the Mountain’ by Howard Lorriman.

Second Section, St. Sebastians Wokingham led by Lee Woodward will play ‘Chaucer’s Tunes’ by Michael Ball’ with Third Section, Cold Ash Brass directed by Jemma Evans on ‘Postcards from Home’ by Philip Wilby.

Fourth Section, Bletchington Silver under Sheldon Barwick will perform ‘Three Spanish Impressions’ by Alan Fernie.

Olney Brass

September 26 • Currently seeking the following players to complete our line up:. Solo Cornet, Soprano Cornet, Flugel Horn & Eb Bass.. We are a friendly and ambitious, 2nd section L&SC area brass band, with a good mixture of concerts, fetes and contests throughout the year


Milton Keynes Brass

September 26 • Required: Solo Euphonium and Solo Horn. We are a championship section band, newly promoted in 2025. We rehearse in Loughton Milton Keynes on a Tuesday night at 7.45pm until 10pm, with extra rehearsals prior to contests or formal concerts.


Hathersage Band
