76 young musicians of the Cornwall Youth Band recently spent four great days of their Christmas holidays rehearsing under the baton of Richard Evans at their residential course at the Truro High for Girls.
Evans and Farr
Richard joined the band following a trip conducting and coaching bands in Japan.
Guest soloist was Owen Farr, who was accompanied by Hannah Hawken, a former principal cornet of the band, whilst Tom Howard, Andrew Hammett, Adam Scott and Josie Whale were lucky enough to take part in his masterclass.
After intensive rehearsals the gala concert took place at St Michael’s Church in Newquay and featured a new work for horn and band entitled, ‘A New Dawn’ by Royal Welsh College of Music student, Christopher Bond.

Lloyd centenary
The band also marked the centenary of St Ives born composer George Lloyd, with a performance of ‘Royal Parks’ which amply demonstrated the high standard and musical ability achieved by the young musicians aged 10 to 21.
