Brass Bands England has clarified its position concerning the selection of its representative band for the 2014 European Youth Championships in Perth in May and beyond.
Asked
A spokesperson informed 4BR: "Brass Bands England is the appointed body to administer entries to all European events organised by EBBA.
In October 2013 the organisation was asked to provide a band to represent England at the European Youth Championship in Perth, and as we administer and organise the National Youth Championships of Great Britain, we decided to invite the highest placed English band from our Premier Section, and used the 2013 event to do this.
The 2013 results showed two bands with equal standing, and after consulting extensively with the adjudicators and talking to the bands involved, the invitation was given to the Northamptonshire Youth Band. This decision was ratified and endorsed by the BBE board."

Each member country
They added: "EBBA asks each member country to nominate one band, and our decision was, and will be, to choose the highest placed English band from the Premier Section at the National Youth Contest.
BBE is pleased that a lot of interest has been generated with regard to entry to the Perth contest and we would encourage bands that want to be considered for invitation to participate in our National Youth Championships.
We will continue to review our procedures and selection processes and will publicise any changes we make in the future."
