Marathon support helps kick start world record bid

Support for bringing the world marathon record back to Blighty is gaining ground on those fiendish Germans...

Marathon Hat

Support from the brass band movement in the UK is already growing for the forthcoming world record attempt by the Huddersfield Marathon Band.

Snatch

The band is are hoping to snatch back the record from the current German holders by completing the 26 miles 385 yards marathon course under the current mark of 7 hours 22 minutes and 55 seconds — whilst playing music!

British Open champions Tredegar became one of the latest high profile bands to offer their support at their recent Christmas dinner.

Players and supporters donated a pound each to have their picture taken by Goldy Solutions Ian Clowes next to the famous Gold British Open trophy wearing the official orange bobble hat.

4BR Support

Even 4BR Editor Iwan Fox was persuaded to don the fetching head gear (above)!

"It’s a great, if ever so slightly bonkers way to raise money for Sense, the UK Deaf Blind Charity, as well as get that record back from the Germans and an entry into the Guinness Book of Records,” he said.

"Hopefully more and more bands will lend their support and help the band reach their target."
