The banding world’s top two ranked bands will be joining forces in the New Year to help a wonderful charitable cause.

Title holders

Cory and Tredegar — the current holders of the four main major banding titles and the number 1 & 2 ranked bands in the world, will come together to perform a concert on Sunday June 22nd at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama in Cardiff, in aid of the Velindre Cancer Centre.

Both bands have strong links with the charity and hope that by combining their musical forces they will be able to help raise funds to assist in their ongoing work.

First time

It is understood to be the first time ever that the two bands, who between them hold the European, British Open, National and Brass in Concert titles, will combine for a specific concert, and it is certainly an occasion that both MDs are looking forward to.

It’s an ideal opportunity to showcase the best of Welsh banding and to show how both organisations can help an amazing charity which is close to both our musical heartsTredegar MD, Ian Porthouse

Wonderful opportunity

"It’s a wonderful opportunity to team up and provide a memorable event for such a worthwhile cause," Cory MD Philip Harper told 4BR.

"There are strong personal links to Velindre within Cory, whilst I know Tredegar has done wonderful fund raising work for them over the years."

He added: "There are many friendships between the players in the two bands, but I believe this will be the first time for a very long time that they have shared the stage together and I'm sure this will add even more shine to the event."

Memorable occasion

Tredegar MD Ian Porthouse agreed: "I’m sure it’s going to be a memorable occasion for everyone concerned.

It’s an ideal opportunity to showcase the best of Welsh banding and to show how both organisations can help an amazing charity which is close to both our musical hearts."

He added: "It will be a great Sunday afternoon concert — and the only problem could be getting enough seats to meet the demand!"

Further details of the concert will be released in the near future.
