Welsh celebration underway

The day of Welsh brass band celebrations has started on Radio Wales.

Brass Day

The day long celebration of all things great about Welsh brass banding has started on Radio Wales.

Importance

The role and importance of the music provided by the Salvation Army has been featured on the early morning programme ‘All Things Considered’, whilst news items are already announced on the ‘Good Morning Wales’ programme.

Cyfarthfa Castle

At 10.00am well known television sports presenter Jason Mohammed will be at Cyfarthfa Castle in Merthyr Tydfil for a live show that will see him delve into the rich history of Welsh banding and of the famous Cyfarthfa Band itself.

On air

Meanwhile, this afternoon, 4BR Editor Iwan Fox and Brass Band Forum Wales Chairman Iestyn Davies will be on air on the Eleri Sion programme form 1.00pm talking about all things brass — as well as other current affairs topics.

Throughout the day there are features and interviews with a great spot about banding in North Wales on the Radio Wales Art Show at 6.30pm.

Presenters

Dr Robert Childs has also been trying to get a host of Radio Wales presenters to learn to play the first few bars of ‘Jingle Bells’ too – with help from the students at the Royal Welsh College. So listen out for their efforts!

Live concert

The long day is finally rounded off with a live broadcast concert of 2013 British Open champion Tredegar under MD Ian Porthouse at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama in Cardiff.

The concert itself is free to attend (starting at 7.30pm) – with a few tickets left. The second half will be broadcast live at 9.00pm and will be presented by Beverley Humphreys.
