New Union leader at Unite

Glenn Birks has become the new principal cornet at Unite the Union Band.

Unite the Union (City of Sheffield) Band has announced the signing of Glenn Birks as their new principal cornet.

Years of experience

A spokesperson told 4BR: "Glen has many years of experience playing with top flight bands such as William Davis Construction and Thoresby Colliery.

He brings a cultured cornet sound that has seen him win many plaudits and awards, the latest being at Bolsover just a few weeks ago."

They added: "He impressed the band straight away with his fabulous sound and leadership which will take us into the festive season and preparation for the Butlins Championships early next year.

The band has also welcomed Jim Eberlin and Helena Wardle to the cornet section.
