Young Lions set to roar

Over 100 players of the Lions Youth Band are set to find out who is the leader of the pack at their forthcoming slow melody contest.

Lions Youth

On Sunday 1st December Lions Youth Brass will be holding their 8th Annual Slow Melody Contest for band members.

Lucky winners

Over 100 players will take part in the event in Sandbach with each of them receiving an adjudicators report and a certificate. There will be a trophy for the winner of each section, with the two lucky winners in Sections 1 and 2 receiving tickets to an upcoming Foden’s Concert.

Winners of Section 3, 4 & 5 will receive one hour music tuition from a player of Roberts Bakery Band, whilst the winners of Sections 6, 7 & 8 will receive one hour music tuition from a player of Foden’s.

Non brass

This year the new Open Sections for non-brass instruments sees entrants play any piece as long as it isn’t a slow melody – with the hope it will attract talented players of other musical instruments — from flutes to electric guitars as soloists or in small groups and ensembles.

The contest will be followed by a concert featuring all three bands.

All ages and abilities

A spokesperson told 4BR: "There are sections for all ages and abilities, and the aim is to give everyone help, constructive feedback and encouragement to improve their slow playing ability."
