Following the appointment at Staines Brass of MD Jonathan Pippen, the well known trombone star has been quick to link up with his Welsh connections to add strength in depth to the London band’s playing ranks.
Five new players
Five new players have been signed, with three originally hailing from across the Severn Bridge, to double the tally of Welsh recruits in the band.
Former Penclawdd principal cornet Rhydian Griffiths takes comes in on top man, with Emma Havard taking over the solo horn position following a highly successful period with British Open champion Tredegar.
Making up the trio is former Cory star Simon Lloyd, who plays in the Central Band of the Royal Air Force comes in on tuba.
These players are great additions and have that in abundance to help push Staines forward on both the contest and concert stageJonathan Pippen
Experience
Another highly experienced RAF player Matthew Edwarson joins on principal trombone to balance out the accent levels, whilst London College of Music student Sophia Smith joins on cornet from Wantage.
A delighted MD told 4BR in his best Anglo/Welsh accent: "I'm really pleased with the recruitment so far, as experience and commitment are what makes a good top flight band.
