Army fireworks set to attract new brass band recruits

A musical taster of just what playing in the British Army Brass Bands is all about

Kneller Hall

With the British Army now actively on the look-out for brass band musicians who wish to make a career for themselves in the service, here’s the chance to listen to the British Army Brass Band in action at one of their special outdoor concerts held at the magnificent Kneller Hall each year.

Outdoor concerts

For well over 100 years the Royal Military School of Music, Kneller Hall, has hosted a season of outdoor summer firework concerts at the bandstand area affectionately known as ‘The Rock’, which is a listed building due to the two imposing oak trees that stand guard either side!

Challenge

The challenge for the band is not only to choose music that fits the occasion, but also that doesn’t get drowned out underneath the incoming flight paths of Heathrow bound passenger jets!

You can tell the band does a great job though – with a few fireworks of their own!

Great opportunity

The recording is a direct feed from the PA at the event, but it gives a good idea as to the standard of musicianship in Army Brass Bands – and the opportunities that are now going to be available for players who wish to make brass banding a fulfilling and rewarding professional career.
