4BR has been informed that after 24 years of outstanding service Clive Allen has stepped down from his role as Festival Secretary and Treasurer of the popular Wychavon Festival of Brass.
Success
The announcement was made at this year’s contest and was followed by a social evening to mark Clive’s contribution to the success of the event, which once again this year attracted bands from around the UK.
The Mayor of Evesham, Councillor Mark Goodge made a presentation to Clive on behalf of the committee in recognition of his many years of service to the banding movement.
Devotion
A spokesperson told 4BR: "Clive has been terrier-like in his devotion to the Festival and in support of the lesser known Youth Festival which provides a free brass mentoring scheme for youngsters within Worcestershire.
Over the years, he has made countless applications for grants and sponsorship and has organised hundreds of bands that have competed at the Wychavon Entertainment Contest."
Immense
They added: "His contribution has been immense – from vetting venues to buying trophies. Now, he has decided to step down to enjoy a well-deserved rest from event organising, returning to the contest we hope in the future as an audience member for a change!"
New personnel
Thankfully for the organisation, new personnel will take over Clive’s role, with Peta King taking on the role of treasurer and Darren Lea overseeing the task of updating the website.
Working alongside the recently appointed Contest Secretary, Kevin Whitaker, is Festival Secretary Sophie Dodds. Keith and Sheila Hemming and Paul Baxter remain active serving members and Diana Raphael, the last stalwart from the previous long serving committee, continues as President.

Hard at work
The spokesperson added: "The committee is already hard at work planning next year's events.
A full review of the 2013 contest has been undertaken and ideas are flowing fast about how the various activities of the Festival can be funded or improved for the benefit of all those who come to compete or to listen."
