Great Yarmouth Youth Brass recently joined forces with Great Yarmouth Brass for a ‘Future Brass’ joint concert in their home town to help raise much needed funds for the youth organisation.
Solo contest
Just before the event, the Youth Band held a solo contest, with the winner being given the opportunity to perform their solo in the concert itself, which attracted a fine turn out of ambitious and brilliant young players.
And it was Laura Belt, aged 14, who delighted the audience and impressed the two senior band adjudicators with her confident performance of the cornet solo ‘Annie’s Song’.
First stand up
It was Laura’s first ‘stand up solo’ performance with a full band, and she said afterwards that she had really enjoyed the experience.
Laura, who has been in the band since 2009, recently passed her Grade 4 with Merit, and was presented with her trophy by Youth Band conductor Richard Ward.
The afternoon included a wide variety of music with performances from the Youth Band, Senior Band and several joint items, conducted by Richard Ward and Colin Swaep.

Special year
2013 has so far been a very special year for the members of Great Yarmouth Brass, who are celebrating their 40th Anniversary.
The concert raised over £225.00.
