With a membership that includes Derek Scott (above), a former City of Bristol Trumpeter, still playing at the age of 88, Bristol Veteran's Brass will celebrate its 20th anniversary later this month.
Support
And the band is certainly looking to support the future brass players of Bristol by raising funds to support a music group at their local Baileys Court Junior School.
At a recent school concert given by the band over 100 pupils said they wanted to learn to play a brass instrument when asked, and so with the help of some old instruments given by the Veterans, the music making has become a reality.
Idea
The forerunner of Bristol Veteran's Brass was inspired when its founder Idris Trott was visiting his elderly mother in a local nursing home in 1993, and thought it would be a great idea to provide daytime entertainment for them.
Members have played in over 100 different bands and this year fulfilled over 20 engagements.

Wonderful way
Twenty years later it still meets for rehearsal every Wednesday morning, where members spend two hours in the unusually named 'Made for Ever' church hall, practising brass band favourites.
A spokesperson told 4BR: "It will be a wonderful way to celebrate our 20th anniversary – making sure that music will be played for generations to come in the Bristol area.
We have all greatly enjoyed a lifetime of playing in various brass groups, so to encourage local children to start is wonderful. Who knows what latent talent is waiting to be discovered in those enthusiastic youngsters?"
