4BR has been informed that former North of England Regional Secretary, Alan Hope, is to become the first Honorary President of the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain.
Half a century
Alan has been immersed in British brass banding as a player, conductor, teacher and adjudicator for over 50 years — 22 of which he has spent serving as Secretary of the North of England Region and 20 involved with the administration of the National Championships themselves.

Philip Morris of Kapitol Promotions, which presents the National Finals told 4BR: "There has never been an Honorary President of the National before, but Kapitol is delighted to create this first appointment in recognition of Alan’s loyal service to the world renowned event."
Commenting on his appointment, a very proud Alan Hope told 4BR: "I’m both absolutely delighted and very humble in being recognised this unique way.
I have always been very proud to have been involved with the biggest brass band contest series in the world, which is also quite possibly the biggest amateur music competition in which the majority of people participate for the right reasons that of making great music!"

He added: "The fact that I’m the first Honorary President of the National Championships makes the appointment even more thrilling.
As I always have, I shall continue to support and promote the National Championships of Great Britain in any way that I can."
