Over a million readers of the Daily Mirror newspaper are being urged to help support Carlton Main Frickley Colliery Band, after their financial plight, just a fortnight before they take part in the National Finals, was highlighted by one of their most respected journalists Paul Routledge.
Financial short fall
His short article on the Daily Mirror website highlighted the fact that the prize money of £200 they received for claiming the Yorkshire Regional title for the first time since 1999, was actual £50 less than the entry fee they had to pay to take part at the contest at the Royal Albert Hall on 12th October.
Support
His supportive response saw him offer his own financial support: "The band is part of the social glue of this community — my contribution is on its way and you can help too."

Fund raising
Part of their fund raising initiative for their Kensington appearance will be two concerts before they leave for London, which will include two world premiere solo performances from star players Kirsty Abbotts and Arfon Owen at Wakefield Theatre Royal.
