A bandstand that once provided the stage to help launch the musical career of David Bowie is to be hopefully saved from demolition thanks to a campaign that has gained support from the multi millionaire singer.
Beckenham bandstand
The bandstand in Beckenham was the location of a festival organised by Bowie on the same weekend as the famous Woodstock festival in 1969, and although it has since played host to numerous less famous artists – including many brass bands, it has fallen into a dangerous state of disrepair.

Memory
Bowie later wrote about his first experience in the single 'Memory of a Free Festival' — although newspaper reports did not state that he had pledged any financial support for the campaign.
