Hammonds Saltaire MD Morgan Griffiths has just returned to the UK after leading over 70 participants in a brass band camp in Japan.
Morgan led the players at the 4th Brass Band Camp in Hamamatsu, organised by Atsuhiko Okamoto and Toshiaki Kameyama.
Yorkshire sound
Over 70 participants from a wide variety of bands throughout Japan enjoyed intensive rehearsals and master classes given by euphonium star and conductor, with many immediately vowing to try and copy what Morgan referred to as the classic ‘Yorkshire Sound’!

Competitive
The event also so performances from respected soloists Atsuhiko Okamoto, Umino Masayo and Ushiwata Katsuyuki, whilst the enjoyable and highly competitive solo competition was won by Eb bass player Chikara Hiraide from Obrigado Brass Consort, who played 1st and 3rd Movement from ‘Sonata’ by Bruce Broughton.
