Thanks to everyone who took part in our latest Sunday Quiz which had plenty of people scrambling through the history books to win the smashing little TGI Metronome & Tuner.
In the end it was Gail Curran of Rossendale in Lancashire who was picked out of the hat after getting the answer right — just in time as she told us to start practising on her flugel for the new season ahead!
The answer
The link between a former Epsom Derby winning horse, John Bingham, the 7th Earl of Lucan and the gold trophy that was presented at the now defunct World Championship Brass Band contest held between 1968 and 1971, was that they are all went missing — and haven't as yet been found.
the trophy has never been seen in public since, although every now again a few people think they have seen Shergar in a field near their homes, or the Earl in a bar in darkest Africa4BR
Not seen again
Shergar was never seen again after being being nicked from his stables in Ireland, whilst Lord Lucan did a famous bunk after undertaking a particularly gruesome murder of the family nanny.
The World Championship Trophy also made a mysterious departure after being returned to the owners.
Like the other two, the trophy has never been seen in public since, although every now again a few people think they have seen Shergar in a field near their homes, or the Earl in a bar in darkest Africa....
