Organisers of the forthcoming CD recording in aid of the Clarence Adoo Trust, have informed 4BR that Vernon Post, who originally transcribed a brass band arrangement of the second and third movements of the Hummel Trumpet Concerto for the great Derek Smith, has agreed to complete his work in aid of the trust.
Virtuoso
The completed arrangement of the 1803 work, originally written for the virtuoso Esterházy court trumpeter Anton Weidinger will be performed by Cory soprano star Steve Stewart on the recording, ‘Melodies from the Great Composers’, accompanied by the Co-operative Funeralcare Band.
Vernon Post originally transcribed the work in 1968 at request of Derek Smith, the then principal cornet of the New York Staff Band (of which Vernon Post was Bandmaster) for its tour of the United Kingdom.
Opportunity
Project organiser and conductor, John Ward told 4BR: "I really wanted to see what opportunity there was to have the first movement transcribed so we could have Steve perform the entire work.
Following conversations with the Salvation Army Music Department, I found out that Vernon was enjoying retirement and continuing to make music. He has agreed to pen this new transcription for this project – 45 years after he first set pen to manuscript."
I’m indebted to Vernon and to those who have helped bring about this huge contribution to the Clarence Adoo TrustConductor, John Ward

The recording will take place on October 19/20 in Glasgow’s Henry Wood Hall.
