4BR has been informed that this year’s South Wales Miners Welfare Entertainment contest will take place on Sunday, September 15th at the Grand Pavilion in Porthcawl.
Growing popularity
It will be the third time that the sibling event to the Welsh Open, and open to Second, Third and Fourth Section bands from both sides of the River Severn will be held, with the contest growing in popularity since 2011.
As well as a generous prize fund, a winner’s cheque for £600 and the South Wales Miners Challenge Cup, the winning band is invited to compete at the Welsh Open itself.
Entertainment
10 bands will take part this year providing a packed hall and adjudicator Chris Davis OBE with plenty of top class entertainment throughout the day.

Competitors
The competitors this year are: A W Parker (Drybrook), Abertillery & District, Ammanford Town, Briton Ferry, Crosskeys, Ebbw Valley, Gwaun Cae Gurwen, Parc & Dare, RAF St. Athan Voluntary, Thomas Coaches Mid Rhondda.
