Newsome memory to help National Youth again

A concert in memory of the great Dr Roy Newsome is set to once again help the talented players of the National Youth Band of Great Britain.

Dr Roy Newsome

The family of the late Dr Roy Newsome is hoping that a second charity concert in his memory will once again provide much needed funds for the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain – an organisation very much close to the heart of its former conductor.

Funds

The inaugural concert last year, featuring Wingtaes Band enabled the family to donate £3,600, and although there is no direct sponsorship to help on this occasion, it is hoped the attraction of the Leyland Band as well as an ‘All Star’ Band made up of many of the top brass band players in the UK, will enable them to raise another substantial donation.

Long term involvement

Neil Newsome told 4BR: "The first charity concert was such a success that we felt it would be great to try and raise funds on an annual basis – especially as my father had such a long term involvement with the National Youth Band."

He added: "It was a fabulous night of music making which brought smiles and the odd tear to the faces of those present, and so we hope that people will dig deep into their pockets once more to support the young players."
