The sweltering summer temperatures recently gave Langley Band the perfect excuse to celebrate by presenting their annual awards.
Double header
On the back of a highly successful ‘double header’ of weekend concerts at their local theatre, the coveted ‘Bandsman of the Year’ award went to Oliver Wilson, their talented baritone player.
The ‘Most Improved Player’ award was won by Wayne Doughty, in recognition of his dedication and practise.
Presentations
The presentations rounded off the successful appearances at the local Barlow Theatre, where under the baton of MD Cliff Parker the band produced a brace of highly enjoyable concerts, featuring the world premiere of Craig Stevens' ‘Sound of Triumph’.
There was also a beautiful solo rendition of ‘O for the Wings of a Dove’ by principal cornet Dave Webb, arranged by Professor Phillip Wilby in memory of cornet player Steve Thornton4BR
Musical tribute
There was also a beautiful solo rendition of ‘O for the Wings of a Dove’ by principal cornet Dave Webb, arranged by Professor Phillip Wilby in memory of cornet player Steve Thornton, who was a great friend of Band Chairman Alan Greenwood from their days in Hammonds Sauce Works Band.
Steve's widow Diane was at the concert to hear the work performed.
