Blue Peter Badges for Northop Youth stars

The young players of North Youth Band certainly did their bit to help a Blue Peter presenter with his musical Whit Friday challenge.

Northop Youth

Northop Youth Band has been enjoying their musical moment of fame on the iconic children’s BBC television programme ‘Blue Peter’.

Whit Friday hosts

The North Wales band recently hosted the programme’s popular presenter Barney Harwood on the famous Whit Friday march contests, as he took up the challenge of learning to play the trombone in just three weeks.

It proved to be a great success for both the band and Barney in fact, with the television crew following them as they played at four venues – including Carrbrook, where they gained a deserved runner-up prize.

All the young players were rewarded for their fabulous efforts with famous Blue Peter badges.

Mascot

The programme was aired in early June, and Barney was presented with a band mascot bear which was given pride of place on the studio set.

Meanwhile, Barney has been bitten by the trombone bug it seems, and for his next challenge he is to play trombone at the Albert Hall with the Welsh Philharmonic Orchestra in July.
