David Ashworth has confirmed to 4BR that he is to withdraw his candidacy for the position of Chairman of Brass Bands England.
Full support
He will now offer his full support to the nomination of Mike Kilroy at the forthcoming BBE AGM in Barnsley on Sunday 21st July.
David (left of main picture) told 4BR: "I’m delighted that Mike Kilroy will stand as a candidate for the role of Chairman, as I believe he is the ideal person to fill such an important position.
I met with Mike last week and enjoyed a very productive exchange of views and opinions. I believe he offers the vision, passion and expertise to take the Brass Bands England forward."
Thanks
Dave took the opportunity to thank the overwhelming number of people who offered their support over the last few months, but now feels that should also be put behind Mike’s nomination.
"I thank everyone who offered their support to me, but I will be contacting BBE and withdrawing my name from the ballot. Now is the time to get behind Mike and to move BBE forward."

Work together
David concluded: "It was my intention in standing to highlight the major problems afflicting the running of the brass band movement. Someone had to put their head above the parapet and get things out in the open.
That has resulted in an outstanding figure coming forward, so now is the time for us all to work together for a brighter future for everyone in banding."
The new Chairperson of Brass Bands England will be elected at the organisation’s AGM in Barnsley on Sunday 21st July.
