The Ashton-under-Lyne Band has announced that former Fairey Band MD Philip Chalk has accepted their invitation to become the new Musical Director.

Long process

Band spokesperson Gary Roylance told 4BR: "It has been quite a long process in finding a suitable candidate to meet our requirements in relation to rehearsals and engagements.

We had a wonderful response through advertising on 4BR, and the high number and quality of applicants meant that it was not possible to see all of them. In the end we approached Phil and were delighted that we have been able to secure his services for a second stint with us."

Success

During his initial tenure with Ashton, between 2004 & 2008, the band secured a number of high profile contest successes and qualified to make two appearances at the British Open.
