Woodhouse set for 160th anniversary celebration

A band that started out when Queen Victoria was in her pomp and Britain was at war in the Crimea is still going strong....

Woodhouse Prize Band

Woodhouse Prize Band is celebrating its 160th anniversary next month with a special concert.

Van Gogh

The band was initially formed in 1853, when Queen Victoria was on the throne, Vincent van Gogh was born, Britain was at war in the Crimea and the first potato crisp was invented!

It was also the year in which the tiny hamlet on the South East of Sheffield joined many other villages throughout the UK and formed its very own band — Handsworth Woodhouse Band, known today as Woodhouse Prize Band.

Opportunity#

The concert will provide a unique opportunity to celebrate the type of ensemble that forms the very backbone of banding in the UK

The band can also boast a victory over Black Dyke too – although you have to go back to 1895 to find it in the record books!

Family band

Now very much a family band they continue to go from strength to strength – all in the hope that one day they will be able to celebrate another victory over their more famous rivals.
