Wardle Youth Band certainly enjoyed their participation in the recent Whit Friday contests after they claimed ten prizes from the six venues they performed at.
First
Playing the street march, ‘Slaidburn’ and contest march, ‘Glemdene’ they took first places in their category at Denton, Broadoak, Upper Mossley and Friezland with runner-up spots at Lydgate and Denshaw.
Principal cornet Laura Conway won the Junior Soloist award at Denton, with the band also winning prizes for deportment at Broadoak and Lydgate as well as winning the entertainment prize at Friezland.

A spokesperson told 4BR: "The Wardle Junior Band also took part in the Whit Friday contests and enjoyed the experience. They also took part in the traditional Whit Walk procession in Mossley in the morning. After the procession the Mayor praised the pupils for their contribution to the day’s events."
